Sexual Reproductive Health & Rights Survey 2025

Welcome FIGO Conference 2025 Delegates!

Brighter Communities Worldwide is delighted to share the findings from our Sexual Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) School Survey in Kericho County, Kenya. These findings reflect the voices of students and teachers, highlighting both the progress achieved and the challenges that remain in advancing SRHR.

About our SRHR Programme

Our school-based SRHR programme supports safe, inclusive learning environments where girls and boys can make informed choices about their health, bodies, and relationships.

The programme:

  • Challenges stigma and harmful norms

  • Promotes respectful relationships

  • Strengthens school systems for sustainable change

Delivered through trained teachers and student-led SRHR Clubs, it combines ten core learning modules with practical supports such as reusable sanitary kits and improved school facilities. These reduce barriers to girls’ education while empowering students as peer educators.

Implementation is rooted in partnership with government ministries, county departments, elders, and community groups — ensuring shared ownership and lasting impact across Kericho County.

The 2025 SRHR School Survey

In May 2025, Brighter Communities Worldwide conducted a survey across 100 schools in Kericho County, engaging 1,740 students and 103 teachers.

This builds on our 2023 SRHR survey (submitted to FIGO 2025 as Abstract FIGO2025-ABS-3088) and provides an updated evidence base to guide programme delivery.

The 2025 survey set out to:

  • Assess levels of SRHR knowledge among students and teachers
  • Understand menstrual health practices in schools
  • Identify challenges and priorities for strengthening the programme
  • Provide baseline and monitoring data for future delivery

Findings show strong progress, with improved knowledge, reduced stigma, and greater student participation.

However, persistent gaps remain — particularly around menstrual health facilities, teacher support, and access to resources.

Together, these results highlight the urgent need to address structural barriers while sustaining positive momentum.  A holistic, whole-school approach — combining knowledge, facilities, teacher support, and community engagement — is essential to empower adolescents to make informed choices about their health and wellbeing.
